The Making of a Masterpiece: "...none to caress" Phase 1

We are excited to announce the release of the fifth print in Mort’s “Tribute to the Legend” Series. It features Stonewall Jackson watching his VMI cadets march in formation in front of what is now Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. With Mort doing only four more paintings of the Civil War, it is likely that this is the last painting Mort will ever do of Jackson and the VMI cadets.

This is Mort’s final charcoal sketch before working on the canvas.
Note the grid lines Mort drew to enable him to easily transfer the sketch to canvas.

Mort has started to draw up the painting onto canvas.

A detail showing Jackson on Little Sorrel. Note the direction Jackson is looking.
